Fluorescence
Fluorescence refers to the emission of visible light from a diamond when subjected to ultraviolet light. The terms used for describing the strength of fluorescence in a diamond are: None, Faint, Medium, Strong, and Very Strong. While not necessarily a negative in terms of appearance, strong or very strong florescence decreases a diamond’s value. It is said that strong fluorescence can make a diamond appear hazy. In the case of 1/2 carat or smaller diamonds, the impact of fluorescence on value is negligible.

How do I know if my diamond has fluorescence?
If you don’t have the benefit of a fluorescent light, (Under which a fluorescent diamond will light up blue, green or yellow), you can take your diamond into a dark room after it has been exposed to sunlight for an extended period of time. If it emits a emits a blue, yellow or green hue, your diamond has some degree of fluorescence.
