DIAMOND TERMS GLOSSARY

- Abrasion – A blemish, such as small nicks along the facet junctions which look whiter than the rest of the diamond. Excessive abrading can be a sign that the stone is cubic zirconium, not a diamond
- AGS (American Gem Society) – A highly regarded diamond grading laboratory in the United States. The accuracy of their diamond reports is 2nd only to GIA
- Appraisal – Evaluation of diamonds or other jewelry, usually for insurance or estate purposes
- Artificial Coloration – Color produced in a diamond by any of several enhancement processes
- Asscher Cut – Early emerald cut style with very wide corners, a high crown and a deep pavilion (Diamond Shapes)
- Average Girdle Diameter – Value achieved by adding the largest and smallest girdle measurements of a Round Brilliant diamond and dividing by 2
